Hello! I’m Mary!

MSW, LSW

Mary Zappo is a Licensed Social Worker in PA. Mary received her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from William Paterson University. Years later, Mary received her Master of Social Work from Marywood University. Mary completed her internships gaining experience in adoption, foster care, and in behavior support in the head start program in the Poconos. After graduation, Mary has focused her career working mainly with children and families in various levels of care, from outpatient, to community, residential, and inpatient psychiatric. Mary also has experience working with adults and couples.

Mary works eclectically with a strengths-based focus on trauma drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Center, Motivational Interviewing, Play Therapy, Narrative using mindfulness and being sensitive to diversity and affirming to the client’s needs.

Mary also offers Sand Tray Therapy to children and adults. Sand tray therapy is an expressive, hands-on mental health technique that allows people to use a tray of sand and miniature objects to create scenes and tell stories that reflect their inner thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This approach can be used when it is difficult to express emotions or traumatic events using words alone. This technique is processed afterwards in sessions and follow up sessions.

Mary’s interests include working with children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, anger management, ADHD, relationship issues, family conflict, first responders, behavioral issues, LGBTQ+, mood disorders, parenting struggles, school issues, self-harm, recovering from abuse, weight loss, and women’s issues.

Mary believes her ideal clients are those who understand that true, lasting change is a choice they must make for themselves. Whether you sit across from her, your child sits on the floor and plays with her, or your family engages with her in a session, you will be held in a safe space where you aren’t judged. It is Mary’s honor to help you/them empower themselves towards incremental and lasting adaptations to living a healthier, more mindful, and emotionally present life.
