Patients’ Rights

  • The right to be treated with dignity and respect
  • The right to fair treatment regardless of race, religion, gender, ethnicity, age, or disability
  • The right to confidentiality in their treatment
  • The right to information about their treatment and easily understood descriptions of their condition
  • The right to know about alternative treatment choices
  • The right to know about their insurance restrictions, benefits, and conditions
  • The right to information about their treating professional and about BCA
  • The right to share in the formation of their treatment planning
  • The right to know about the complaint, grievance, and appeal process at BCA and with their insurance carrier.

BCA guidelines for effective counseling practice include:

  • Accessibility of services to clients in a timely fashion
  • Treating life-threatening cases immediately
  • Treating urgent cases within 48 hours
  • Treating routine cases within 5 to 7 business days
  • Disseminating relevant clinical information to clients

Patient’s Responsibilities

As with the expectations of responsible behavior with BCA professionals, patients are also expected to:

  • Gives BCA professional staff all of the information they need to provide the most effective service
  • Let the staff know when treatment is no longer effective
  • Follow the treatment plan as defined by the BCA professional and the client
  • Follow the medication plan as outlined by the consulting physician
  • Treat those giving them care with dignity and respect
  • Keep their appointments and when necessary to miss an appointment, contact the office to cancel the appointment at least 24 hours in advance
