Laura has worked in a variety of settings, ranging from in-patient hospitalization programs, partial hospitalization programs, in-home counseling, and has come to enjoy working in the outpatient setting the most.
Laura feels it’s important for a client to have choices in their therapy and to have a wide array of treatment interventions to work with in addressing their treatment goals. Laura enjoys working with clients who are going through transitional phases in their lives and need support in staying grounded. Incorporating breathing, movement, and positive thinking as ways to address symptoms of anxiety and depression is the main focus. Humor can be helpful in working through tough situations, and finding challenging scenarios/life events as opportunities to practice something that we need in our lives can reduce negative thinking patterns.
Often Laura will discuss clients’ ways of managing and taking care of their physical health in conjunction with their mental health, as often the two go hand in hand in the way that a person is feeling. Laura enjoys helping clients find triggers to their anxiety and depression, as well as establishing healthier coping techniques and healthier boundaries in their lives. Clients who are anxious and/or depressed can lose sight of their strengths and Laura appreciates helping a client see those strengths in themselves once again.
