Frank Gerlach

Counselor Summary

Hello! I’m Frank!

MSW, LSW

Frank Gerlach is a Licensed Social Worker who is working towards a clinical license. Frank graduated from Albright College with a Bachelor of Arts in Crime and Justice. His career began as a counselor on a residential unit at KidsPeace. There he worked with adolescents dealing with mental illness, abuse and neglect, severe family conflict, conduct disorder, and trauma from placement. Frank was promoted to supervisor of a unit before departing to further his career at the County of Lehigh. He spent eleven years working in Child Protective Services and with adolescents working towards independence. During this time, Frank furthered his education and earned a Master of Social Service from Bryn Mawr College. He went on to serve as a lead worker in the Office of Crisis Intervention. In this role, Frank worked with people and their families responding to emergency situations as they dealt with a range of mental illnesses including psychosis and addiction.

Frank believes that understanding others’ perspectives is essential to positive interactions, and treating others with respect and dignity is a path towards understanding. Progress and success are respective to the individual. He utilizes an eclectic approach including psychodynamic, cognitive/behavioral therapy, family systems therapy and motivational interviewing. Frank specializes with individuals, couples and families coping with trauma, interpersonal issues, family dynamics, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, behavioral/conduct disorders, and life adjustment challenges.

Outside of his profession, Frank was a high school football coach at public and parochial schools. Football was a major influence on Frank as he played the sport as a young child through the college level. This taught him about hard work, leadership, mutual respect, comradery, and the importance of teamwork through relationships. Love of the sport and giving back played a large role in forming Frank’s principal values.
